Stephen King – Still The Best, and Why I loved Reading Pet Sematary

Are you on Goodreads? It’s a great place to share reviews of books and recommend new reads. It’s like Facebook for book enthusiasts. I’ve been on there for a while, but in recent months I’ve let my postings slide a little.

No longer. My Summer Solstice resolution is to post reviews more often on Goodreads.

My latest Goodreads review was for Pet Sematary by Stephen King. The horror maestro aka phenomenon (for how many decades now?) speaks of this book as his darkest, and I have to say it’s one of my favourites of his. He deals extremely well with the very sensitive subject of child death, and the final payback is sheer scary, horrifying genius.

I’m sure many of you have already read this masterpiece. If you have, I’d love to hear what you think, and/or what is your favourite Stephen King title/movie.

So here’s my Goodreads review. Be warned, it contains spoilers. If you would like to follow me on Goodreads here, I always follow back.

“This is probably my favourite Stephen King novel. King is great at building character and setting; he has a very eloquent way of propelling the story forward and a strong attention to detail.

I tend to prefer King’s shorter novels. The Stand was a bit too long for me, frankly. Pet Sematary has a fairly long setup, during which King deals sensitively with the subject of child death extremely convincingly. The payback is top notch and very scary. Stephen King is still the indisputable King of Horror.”
